Enabling people and organisations

The working world has evolved significantly over the last number of decades: globalisation, the increased role of women in the workplace, digitalisation. Employees and employers alike face ongoing change.

Change is often daunting, nerve-wracking and unsettling.

However, I believe that a greater risk is getting caught up in the stress of change and not manoeuvring forward.

The How …

Employees nowadays are looking for more engaging work, greater flexibility, a compatibility of work and family life. Simultaneously, employers seek flexibility from their employees.

Change is happening so fast that they need people who can move with market demands and this pace of change, even the development of more intrapreneurial thinking. Whilst employees are assessing how they can reconcile work and family life, business owners and management are re-thinking how people in their organisations work together and how people are led and managed.

My focus: preparing and supporting organisations in working together with their employees to find joint solutions to issues concerning the workplace or work culture.

Part of this journey involves employers increasingly taking their employees’ needs and requirements into consideration. It also involves employees and employers reaching agreements on what is feasible, without jeopardising company goals or financial bottom lines of the organisations.

This enables employers that build their brand as an employer of choice to lay the foundations to become more flexible and future-orientated. It also facilitates employees in gaining greater work life balance alongside greater satisfaction and engagement at work.

Since 2007, I have been committed to supporting both employers and employees on this journey of forging their future together. I apply substantial HR expertise with coaching and mediative techniques to enable or facilitate change on an individual and organisational level.

A solution-driven process, enabling you to reach your goals

Often our solutions approach in challenging or complex situations are distorted by pressure, rash judgments, our restlessness or our personal blind spots. When you confide in me as your coach we work together on breaking out of this limitation. In accordance with Einstein’s motto “question everything”, I focus on active listening and various forms of questioning but also on the application of tools which could help you gain a clearer perspective.

As your coach, I  guide and seldom tell. Hence, I build my coaching sessions around enabling you to develop the skills and self-esteem you require to reach your goals.

Knowledge sharing and sparring to facilitate your career or personal development

Whilst in coaching I focus on you activating your resources to help you move forward, in mentoring I become your sparring partner, supporting you in working things out or in progressing with greater determination towards solving issues and problems. In this case the focus is more on sharing experience and “telling”, whilst also supporting you identify solutions that suit your needs or work in your environment.

Personally, as your coach & mentor I believe there is much more to achieving a goal than vision and a plan. Sometimes we need to address those stumbling blocks, head on. Last but not least – to make real progress we need to set ourselves up to win. I enable you to design options and routes that are for you, ones that you can commit to and deliver on.

Conflict, Negotiation & Consensus Development

The basic principle: If we changed the way we view things what might be possible and what could it lead to?

As a facilitator I apply mediative skills to facilitate a dialogue i.e. between individuals and groups, bringing seemingly conflicting interests in a better balance. That way issues are either nipped in the bud or approached at a stage where an awareness of group dynamics and building joint understanding, provide a strong footing for group progress.

As a mediator I am a neutral party, who is “hardwired” to see the bigger picture and the potential. I believe in restoring relationships or at least establishing a fair agreement to go separate ways. I assist parties in finding resolutions in both their interests.

More often than not there are some genuinely good reasons for the others inclinations and actions (iceberg model). Good communication and a guided process assist in clarifying different perspectives, misunderstandings, and working towards common ground. By engaging in the process of consensus development, you not only benefit from a solution to an actual problem but also gain an understanding, of how to approach a situation differently in the future.

As a registered member of the Swiss chamber of commercial mediators I conduct mediations predominately in the workplace in both German and English. If required, I team up with a Co-Mediator from MEDIATIONS-TEAM Basel and Mediators in Bern.

Predominantly short workshops to two day trainings to strengthen your self-knowledge and your confidence in applying soft skills . However, depending on your requirements or learning goals I can build a program to meet your needs.

Topics include:

Change & change competence

  • Communication, change, change management
  • Conflict & consensus development

HR – Future trends and the need for more mediative action?

Career crossroads & career repositioning

Compatibility of work and family life

  • Career development for women
  • Work and life for men
  • Work and care – a silent risk?
